Management and Leadership Issues

  • Facilitated strategic planning processes, developed an innovative community consultation process and guided an organizational change/transition process (coaching, management, board and staff development) for a community health centre and several voluntary sector organizations.
  • Developed strategic plans, conducted stakeholder consultation, facilitated decision-making, and liaised with partners for a number of non-profit organizations.
  • Developed and implemented a two year management learning development strategy for the regional directors of a major national union.
  • Worked with a consulting team to deliver a four-day intensive leadership and team development strategy for a federal government department undergoing restructuring and change.
  • Managed the controversial issue of removing over 1200 wild/feral horses, which were threatening a National Wildlife Area, from the Military Range at Suffield, Alberta.
  • Managed projects for: land use, forestry, wildlife, solid waste, energy management, central heating plants, water conservation and contaminated lands.
  • Updated the Federal Building Initiative’s request for proposal (RFP) for Energy Performance Contracting (EPC), and initiated EPC in National Defence.

Strategic Frameworks and Strategies

  • Worked with several universities, colleges and non-profit groups to design and deliver innovative curriculum in management and leadership, including the development of an online format.
  • Developed a collaborative approach and strategy for a regional network of community health centres.
  • Developed a provincial recreation policy for children and youth.
  • Undertook a feasibility study for the development of a centre for leadership, management and governance in the voluntary sector.
  • Created a concept of The Whole Economy.
  • Developed a continuous learning framework and a limited feasibility study on certification and accreditation for the Canadian International Development Agency.
  • Developed ISO 14001 Environmental Management System (EMS) for the Construction Engineering Section at CFB Esquimalt, and National Defence Headquarters.
  • Developed National Defence’s first Sustainable Development Strategy which was judged by the Auditor General to be the best in government. This project included consultations both internally and externally with aboriginal groups, and non-government organizations.

Accountability

  • Audited military bases for best practices and performance.
  • Created a Pollution Prevention Manual for Fisheries and Oceans Complex at Pat Bay BC including environmental programs, a management framework, and audit protocols.
  • Developed an allocations policy framework for a local United Way.
  • Worked to support the development of auditting and evaluation processes.

Facilitating Community Building

  • Facilitated organizational and community-wide planning and decision-making processes in many contexts.
  • Developed and implemented over 40 customized workshops on leadership, communication, partnerships and collaboration, managing change, transition and team development for a variety of clients, with demonstrated effectiveness and positive results.
  • Served as the change management specialist for a consulting team restructuring a $62 M. child and family services sector in a major Canadian city.
  • Developed and delivered training and awareness programs for senior manages, line managers, technical specialist, building operators, property managers etc.
  • Delivered for the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) "Energy Conservation" and "Life Cycle Costing" classes for their certification program.
